Las explosiones de material pirotécnico han sido letales este año; los pobladores se niegan a dejar esta actividad, heredada de generación en generación.

Este año se han registrado 18 accidentes provocados por la pirotecnia que se manufactura en Tultepec.
El 5 de julio ocurrió el más grave. Ese día hubo tres explosiones en La Saucera, con un saldo de 24 muertos, entre los que se encontraban bomberos, policías y civiles, además de 54 lesionados.
Se trata de la explosión más trágica ocurrida en el municipio desde diciembre de 2016, cuando se terminó el mercado de San Pablito, donde murieron por lo menos 45 personas y 66 resultaron lesionadas.
De acuerdo con funcionarios del ayuntamiento, hasta el 5 de julio de este año se habían reportado 14 polvorines en 2018, que, sumados a los accidentes posteriores, suman 18 hasta el momento.
Llama la atención que las últimas explosiones han ocurrido en La Saucera, zona de talleres autorizados para fabricar y almacenar pirotecnia. Sin embargo, algunos siniestros se reportaron en talleres clandestinos o con el permiso vencido, el cual otorga la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional. La expedición de permisos quedó suspendida tras el incidente de San Pablito, pese a que la venta de estos explosivos es de alta demanda, por lo que algunos perdieron ingresos; otros operan en la clandestinidad.
Tal es el caso de la señora Sandra García, artesana del barrio de La Saucera; admite tener pérdidas económicas porque su permiso venció hace dos años y medio.
“Toda mi familia se ha dedicado a este negocio. Atendemos fiestas patronales, festejos de independencia y, ahorita que es la temporada decembrina hay demanda, no podemos dejar de trabajar en lo nuestro”, dice.
El Instituto Mexiquense de la Pirotecnia apunta que 65 por ciento de habitantes de Tultepec está involucrado en alguna actividad relacionada en la elaboración y/o venta de fuegos pirotécnicos.
Y el gobierno de Tultepec informó que 257 de los 300 comerciantes que hay en el nuevo mercado de San Pablito, cumplieron en tiempo y forma con los requisitos para volver a operar.
Mientras, tras el incidente de julio, corporaciones de seguridad y justicia realizaron operativos en talleres clandestinos.
El 23 de agosto, unos 500 pobladores se confrontaron con policías estatales y el alcalde de Tultepec, Armando Portuguez, por el cateo en cinco domicilios.
La situación generó el cierre del ayuntamiento ese día y la intervención del gobierno estatal. Acordaron acciones para evitar malas prácticas en la elaboración de pirotecnia, así como en la agilización de permisos.
La vida entre la pólvora
- La Secretaría de Protección Civil elaboró un programa de prevención en manejo de fuegos artificiales.
- La dependencia contabilizó en la entidad 157 centros autorizados para fabricar material pirotécnico.
- El 30 de noviembre se registró el accidente más reciente del año, en La Saucera, con un saldo de 2 muertos.
