El boxeador Julio César Chávez Jr. abandonó el penal federal de Sonora donde estaba recluido, tras ser vinculado a proceso por delitos de tráfico de armas y presuntos nexos con el Cártel de Sinaloa.
El juez determinó que el pugilista mexicano enfrentará su proceso en libertad, con la medida cautelar principal de no salir de México y un plazo de tres meses para la investigación complementaria.
Proceso legal y audiencia virtual
Chávez Jr. permanecía en el Centro Federal de Readaptación Social (Cefereso) 11 de Hermosillo, Sonora, desde donde participó de manera virtual en la audiencia, a petición de las autoridades federales.
El boxeador, hijo del legendario Julio César Chávez, también enfrentaba un proceso legal en Estados Unidos, donde fue detenido a principios de julio por ingresar de manera ilegal y ser señalado por vínculos con el Cártel de Sinaloa.
Captura y deportación de Chávez Jr.
La captura del boxeador ocurrió el 2 de julio de 2025 en Estados Unidos, luego de que perdiera una pelea ante el youtuber Jake Paul en Anaheim.
Esta semana, fue deportado a México y trasladado inmediatamente al penal federal en Sonora.
El Gobierno estadounidense lo acusó de no contar con documentos para permanecer legalmente en el país y de mantener nexos con el cártel.
La Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) confirmó que el púgil tenía una orden de aprehensión en México desde 2023, por delincuencia organizada y tráfico de armas.
Ahora, Chávez Jr. enfrentará el proceso en libertad mientras se continúa con la investigación.
