Entre enero y marzo de 2025 se registraron en México 211 mil 894 muertes, de acuerdo con las Estadísticas de Defunciones Registradas (EDR) difundidas por el INEGI. La cifra es preliminar y representa mil 445 menos respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior.
El informe detalla que las enfermedades del corazón se colocaron como la primera causa de muerte en el país, con 51 mil 382 fallecimientos. En segundo lugar se ubicó la diabetes mellitus con 30 mil 578 casos, seguida por los tumores malignos que ocasionaron 23 mil 678 decesos.
La lista de las 10 principales causas incluyó también influenza y neumonía (11 mil 703 muertes), enfermedades del hígado (10 mil 97), accidentes (9 mil 480), enfermedades cerebrovasculares (9 mil 40), agresiones catalogadas como homicidios (7 mil 133), enfermedades pulmonares obstructivas crónicas (5 mil 678) e insuficiencia renal (4 mil 748).
Las defunciones por enfermedades del corazón afectaron a 23 mil 903 mujeres y 27 mil 475 hombres. En el caso de la diabetes, los decesos se distribuyeron de forma casi equitativa: 15 mil 218 mujeres y 15 mil 360 hombres. Para los tumores malignos, la diferencia se mantuvo con 12 mil 461 fallecimientos femeninos y 11 mil 217 masculinos.
Las entidades con las tasas más altas de defunciones por cada 100 mil habitantes fueron Ciudad de México (214.3), Colima (187.7), Morelos (180.4), Sonora (179.9) y Veracruz (178.9). Por el contrario, los estados con los índices más bajos fueron Guerrero (78.7), Quintana Roo (109), Durango (111.2), Campeche (115.6) y Sinaloa (119.3).
Las cifras provienen de certificados de defunción captados en oficialías del Registro Civil, servicios médicos forenses y agencias del Ministerio Público. La información definitiva será confrontada con la Secretaría de Salud y se publicará en el último trimestre de 2026.
