Este 2016 la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA) cumple 79 años desde su cración y en los últimos años desde que el expresidente Felipe Calderón tomó el cargo el Ejército se ha encargado de luchar contra el crimen organizado.
En el mundo, el Ejército Mexicano ocupa el lugar 31 de acuerdo con el Global Firepower Index (GFI) 2016. ¿Cuáles son los Ejércitos más poderosos de América Latina? México es el segundo sólo por abajo de Brasil de los 126 países incluidos.
1.- Brasil: es el lugar 15 con 330 mil miembros activos y mil 800 de reserva. Además cuenta con mil 707 vehículos de combate, 486 tanques, 180 lanzacohetes y 735 aeronaves. Su presupuesto militar es de 31 mil 900 millones dólares.
2.- México: la labor del Ejército Mexicano no sólo es en territorio nacional sino su participación abarca las Operaciones de Mantenimiento de la Paz de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas. Tiene 270 mil miembros activos y 76 mil 500 de reserva. Posee 695 vehículos blindados, ningún tanque, y 400 aeronaves. El presupuesto es de siete mil millones de dólares.
3.- Argentina: es el lugar 35 con un presupuesto de cuatro mil 330 mil dólares. Es un país interesado en la adquisición de armas, por lo que negocia con Brasil. Tiene un total de 75 mil miembros activos y 31 mil 240 de reserva. Asimismo 828 vehículos, 252 aeronaves y 412 tanques.
4.- Perú: ocupa el sitio 40 en el ranking mundial y tiene más de 100 mil militares provenientes de Estados Unidos, Rusia y China. Entre sus miembros activos hay 120 mil 660 personas y 272 mil de reserva. Tiene 890 vehículos blindados, 85 tanques, 246 aeronaves y 60 buques. Su presupuesto es de dos mil 560 millones de dólares.
5.- Colombia: con la posición 41, este país cierra el conteo con 445 mil miembros activos y 62 mil de reserva. Además mil 345 vehículos, 447 aeronaves y 234 buques. Tiene un presupuesto de 12 mil 145 mil dólares.
6.- Venezuela: está posicionado en el sitio 45 con 115 mil personas en combate y 438 mil en reserva. Así como 700 vehículos, 192 tanques, 277 aeronaves y 50 buques. Su presupuesto cuatro mil millones de dólares.
