Los estereotipos de género en las plataformas YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix y otras páginas de internet responden a un ideal de belleza altamente exigente, racista, capacitista, hipersexualizado y resistente a la diversidad corporal, lo que induce presión aspiracional y violencia simbólica entre las jóvenes.
Así lo dice el estudio “Representaciones de género y violencia contra las mujeres en los medios digitales y de entretenimiento”, realizado en 2018 por el Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios de Género (CIEG) de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) y la Comisión Nacional para Prevenir y Erradicar la Violencia contra las Mujeres (Conavim), de la Secretaría de Gobernación.
La investigación analizó videos, imágenes y perfiles de personas con más seguidores en las redes sociales y encontró que estas plataformas difunden modelos de cuerpos blancos, delgados, jóvenes, “heteronormados” y a menudo estilizados de acuerdo a los parámetros de la pornografía, estereotipos que son mucho más rígidos para las mujeres que para los hombres.
Además, el estudio encontró que los modelos de género hacen que las jóvenes deseen ropa y accesorios, viajes, autos, fiestas, etcétera, algo que implica un consumo intensivo.
La tecnología digital de las telecomunicaciones, se indica en el documento, se ha convertido en un elemento importante en nuestras vidas, presenta ventajas para la comunicación y fortalecer canales para la libertad de expresión, pero también plantea desafíos, ya que permite la circulación de mensajes abusivos, así como de diferentes prácticas de control social
En 2017, de acuerdo con los datos sobre hábitos de personas usuarias de internet recopilados en la investigación, 57 por ciento de internautas tenían entre 12 y 34 años de edad, 8 por ciento se conecta entre las 14 y las 16 horas del día, el promedio de conexión diaria era de 8 horas con un minuto y la actividad que más se realizaba era acceder a las redes sociodigitales.
En este contexto, destaca que varios de los medios sociodigitales más populares entre las y los jóvenes en México activan un escenario comunicativo de “cualidad masculinista”, es decir, de contenidos de hombres para hombres, que excluyen a las mujeres a pesar de que la presencia femenina constituya un elemento que está presente.
Ante esta realidad, una de las conclusiones del estudio es la necesidad de que las instituciones públicas alienten programas de educación formal y no formal, que pueden ser desde cine-debates, talleres, cursos de sensibilización, exposiciones y otras actividades lúdicas, para instruir valores de igualdad de género a la juventud.
La propuesta de la investigación es que además las instituciones difundan información contra la violencia y a favor de los Derechos Humanos y la no discriminación por razones de género, orientación sexual, color de piel, o diversidad corporal y funcional; y que en los programas de educación formal incorpore los temas de igualdad de género y ciudadanía.
