La Secretaría de Salud confirmó este jueves la detección de un segundo caso humano de miasis por gusano barrenador en el país, afectando a un campesino de 50 años residente del municipio de Tuzantán, Chiapas.
El paciente, quien contrajo la infección tras sufrir la mordedura de un perro en una pierna, ya fue dado de alta tras recibir el tratamiento médico adecuado.
Según el reporte oficial, el hombre comenzó a presentar síntomas alarmantes días después de la mordedura, incluyendo la aparición de larvas que emergían de la herida, acompañado de dolor intenso, fiebre y enrojecimiento en la zona afectada.
Al acudir a los servicios médicos, los profesionales de salud lograron extraer inicialmente seis larvas de la lesión.
¿Cuál fue el tratamiento que recibió por miasis por gusano barrenador?
El caso requirió atención especializada en el Hospital General de Huixtla, donde los médicos realizaron un lavado quirúrgico profundo de la herida y administraron el tratamiento farmacológico correspondiente.
Afortunadamente, la intervención médica oportuna permitió una evolución favorable, logrando la recuperación completa del paciente, quien ya fue dado de alta.
¿Qué es la miasis por gusano barrenador?
La miasis por gusano barrenador es una enfermedad parasitaria causada por la larva de la mosca Cochliomyia hominivorax, un insecto que deposita sus huevos en heridas abiertas de mamíferos.
Aunque afecta principalmente al ganado, los casos humanos – aunque raros – pueden ser graves.
Las larvas se alimentan del tejido vivo, pudiendo causar daños extensos, pérdida de función en los órganos afectados e incluso la muerte en situaciones no tratadas adecuadamente.
¿Cómo protegerse del gusano barrenador?
Ante este segundo caso registrado en tres semanas – el primero fue una mujer de 77 años también en Chiapas -, las autoridades sanitarias emitieron una alerta preventiva para los estados del sureste mexicano (Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo y Yucatán).
Las recomendaciones principales incluyen:
- Lavado inmediato de cualquier herida con agua y jabón
- Mantener las lesiones limpias, secas y adecuadamente cubiertas
- Evitar el uso de remedios caseros que puedan empeorar la condición
- Acudir de inmediato al médico ante síntomas como secreción, dolor persistente o sensación de movimiento bajo la piel
Vigilancia epidemiológica
La Secretaría de Salud mantiene un monitoreo activo en la región para detectar posibles nuevos casos.
Los especialistas recuerdan que el diagnóstico y tratamiento temprano son cruciales para evitar complicaciones graves, destacando que la extracción quirúrgica de las larvas seguida de terapia farmacológica es el abordaje más efectivo.
