El primer caso de Mpox, también conocida como “viruela del mono”, registrado en Nayarit en lo que va del año ha generado preocupación en el municipio de Bahía de Banderas y en la zona de Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
El caso fue diagnosticado en el hospital de San Pancho, sin embargo, lo que ha alarmado a las autoridades es que el paciente, después de recibir el diagnóstico, abandonó el hospital sin cumplir con la cuarentena y se retiró utilizando transporte público.
Las autoridades de Nayarit han informado que están investigando el caso. Beatriz Ruiz, secretaria de Salud del estado, señaló que aún se esperan los resultados de laboratorio para confirmar si efectivamente se trata de un caso de Mpox.
Según un registro médico del hospital de San Pancho, que fue filtrado a medios locales, el paciente es un hombre de aproximadamente 24 años que fue remitido desde la localidad de Toribio el lunes 26 de agosto, presentando síntomas de “enfermedad exantemática PBL viruela del mono”.
A pesar de haber recibido el diagnóstico, el paciente se negó a cumplir la cuarentena en el hospital y decidió retirarse por su cuenta, abordando una unidad de transporte público sin que se tomaran medidas para impedirlo.
Las autoridades han identificado el lugar donde reside el paciente, quien vive en condiciones de hacinamiento con otras 10 personas. Sin embargo, no se ha confirmado si el paciente ha sido localizado, si se encuentra en aislamiento o si se ha implementado un cerco sanitario preventivo.
Durante el brote anterior de esta enfermedad en 2022 y 2023, el gobierno federal confirmó 10 casos de Mpox en Nayarit. La enfermedad, que es transmitida de animales salvajes al ser humano, tiene como principales huéspedes a roedores silvestres como ratones y ardillas, y no a primates como su nombre común sugiere.
