Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reconoció que el derrame de hidrocarburo que afectó gravemente la costa de Paraíso, Tabasco, se originó en un ducto que transporta aceite de la plataforma Akal-C a la Terminal Marítima de Dos Bocas.
La empresa estatal reportó que la emergencia se debió a dos fugas, las cuales ya fueron contenidas con la instalación de abrazaderas metálicas.
Esta fuga de crudo alcanzó una extensión de siete kilómetros e impactó directamente zonas costeras, cuerpos de agua y ecosistemas protegidos.
Las fugas fueron notificadas a la Agencia de Seguridad, Energía y Ambiente (ASEA), dependencia de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat), para coordinar las acciones de remediación ambiental correspondientes.

El hidrocarburo llegó hasta áreas naturales protegidas como la laguna Mecoacán, el río Seco y la laguna de El Bellote, donde se reportó mortandad de jaibas, camarones, peces y afectación directa a bancos ostrícolas.
Manglares contaminados con restos de petróleo fueron registrados por autoridades ambientales, así como fauna marina y aves, entre ellas pelícanos y gaviotas, visiblemente afectadas.
La Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (Semades) de Tabasco presentó una denuncia formal ante la ASEA. El gobierno estatal confirmó que se asignó el folio PROM 00598 para dar seguimiento al caso y garantizar la aplicación de la ley en materia ambiental.
El impacto económico fue inmediato, pues, unos mil 500 pescadores suspendieron sus labores debido a los daños en sus artes de pesca y la contaminación en zonas de captura.
Por otro lado, prestadores de servicios turísticos reportaron pérdidas tras el cierre de playas como Brisas, Dorada, Bruja, Cocalito y Sol, justo en medio del reciente puente de asueto.
El Ayuntamiento de Paraíso ordenó el izamiento de la bandera negra e implementó restricciones para acceder a las zonas afectadas.
