En la actualidad México ocupa el segundo lugar de los países que más víctimas de trata provee a los Estados Unidos de América. Año con año más de 4 millones de personas, principalmente mujeres y personas menores de edad, son víctimas de este delito.
De acuerdo con cifras de la Organización Mundial para las Migraciones (OIM) la trata de personas se encuentra en el tercer lugar en la lista de delitos transnacionales con mayor incidencia, además que es el segundo negocio ilícito más redituable para la delincuencia organizada, sólo por debajo del narcotráfico.
En el último año el número de víctimas identificadas se duplicó de 127 a 250. La trata de personas se presenta con mayor frecuencia en mujeres con un 92%, de acuerdo con el Observatorio Nacional en su Reporte sobre Delitos de Alto impacto.
Las Zonas de incidencia en el Estado de México son: Texcoco, Tlalnepantla, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Naucalpan de Juárez, Nezahualcóyotl, Ecatepec y Tultitlán.
Por tal motivo la Diputada local por Atizapán de Zaragoza Ingrid Schemelensky, desde la máxima tribuna local impulso reformar diversos artículos de la Ley para prevenir, atender y combatir la trata de personas en el Estado de México a fin de fortalecer la cooperación para prevenir, atender y combatir de manera eficaz la Trata de Personas en nuestro Estado.
