El ejemplar fue encontrado por un profesor de la UNAM a orillas del Campus Morelia.
La Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa) rescató un cachorro de ocelote (Leopardus pardalis) en la comunidad de Epazote, municipio Tztzio, Michoacán.
El ejemplar de aproximadamente una semana de edad fue encontrado por un profesor investigador de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Campus Morelia, a las orillas del camino en la localidad.
Al ser entregado a las autoridades de la Profepa se procedió a su revisión tras lo cual se determinó que debido a su corta edad, requería cuidados médicos veterinarios que aseguraran su sobrevivencia.
Mientras el cachorro estuvo al resguardo de la procuraduría ambiental le fue suministrado medicamento, alimentos y cuidados para su preservación, sin embargo se trasladó a las instalaciones de la fundación “Black Jaguar White Tiger”, para su óptima rehabilitación.
Por otra parte, la delegación de Profepa en el estado se reunió con el Gobierno Autónomo de Cherán, para instalar el Comité de Vigilancia Ambiental Participativa en la comunidad de San Francisco Cherán, Michoacán, a fin de que los integrantes de dicha zona coadyuven en la protección de la vida silvestre y forestal.
En el encuentro la dependencia federal y el gobierno autónomo acordaron acciones y estrategias para la protección de los recursos naturales de la comunidad, así como capacitaciones sobre vida silvestre y forestal, además de recorridos de vigilancia.
El comité está conformado por 52 vigilantes, dentro del mismo se encuentran miembros del Consejo Mayor de Gobierno y Consejo de Bienes Comunales, los cuales fungen como gobierno dentro de la comunidad.
Para la Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente es de suma importancia esta acción, debido a que la comunidad se rige mediante el sistema de usos y costumbres, por lo que San Francisco Cherán es considerada una de las principales zonas habitadas por el pueblo purépecha.
Por lo tanto la coordinación que se tendrá para la protección de los bosques es sustantiva, ya que el área es 100 por ciento forestal, con clima templado frío, así como una importante biodiversidad de flora y fauna y cuenta con 16 mil 684.96 hectáreas de terrenos forestales.
