Cada año en Atizapán se retiran 86 mil metros cúbicos de desperdicios en las 37 barrancas y cuencas de esta localidad.
Llantas, sillones, colchones, electrodomésticos, además de basura en general, es parte de lo que a través de los programas de limpieza de barrancas y ríos se recolecta y se retira para evitar problemas de inundaciones en Atizapán.
Esta problema es constante, sin embargo hay campañas de difusión para crear conciencia de las consecuencias que ocasiona tirar estos desperdicios o artículos en las barrancas, toda vez que son los principales generadores de tapones en temporada de lluvias y que generan inundaciones y desbordamientos.
Al respecto, Arturo Vega, titular del organismo de agua municipal informó que ya se iniciaron trabajos de limpieza de la Cuenca Sierra Lago de Guadalupe, las labores se intensifican en las zonas de Villas de la Hacienda y El Jaral, que se ubican en el norte, donde convergen cuatro cauces que desembocan en el Túnel Emisor Poniente.
Además del programa de limpieza municipal, se realizan trabajos con personal de la Comisión Nacional del Agua y la Comisión Estatal, al tiempo que se incrementan las acciones para crear la cultura de la prevención entre la ciudadanía, para que dejen de tirar su basura en las barrancas.
