Un saldo de 18 peregrinos muertos y tres lesionados dejó la volcadura de una camioneta de redilas que transportaba a decenas de peregrinos en la carretera Interserrana en la región de Zacatlán.
Los feligreses regresaban a su comunidad, perteneciente a Tepango de Rodríguez luego de haber dejado la imagen de una Virgen de Guadalupe en Ahuacatlán, sin embargo, poco antes de llegar a su lugar de origen la unidad presentó una falla mecánica y volcó.
Los hechos se registraron en el tramo Tepango de Rodríguez-Zapotitlán de Méndez, a la altura del paraje Cuatro Caminos, donde perdieron la vida 19 personas y cuatro fueron trasladadas para recibir atencion médica. Uno de los sobrevivientes falleció antes de llegar al nosocomio.
Trascendió que familiares de las víctimas no levantarán cargos contra el chofer, ante la conciencia de que se trató de una falla mecánica muy ajena a cualquiera de sus responsabilidades.
