El gobierno estadounidense informó más temprano que mantendría al menos hasta el 21 de agosto el cierre a actividades no esenciales, como el turismo, de la frontera terrestre con México, que ha estado inhabilitada desde que inició la pandemia.
“¿Qué nos ha venido a complicar la escena? Lo que teníamos previsto: la variante Delta y el crecimiento de casos en ambos países”, dijo el canciller Marcelo Ebrard. “A nosotros nos hubiera gustado otra cosa, pero hay que seguir trabajando para que ojalá en agosto sí logremos que se reabra”, agregó.
El funcionario dijo que espera que se alcance un acuerdo una vez que haya evidencia de menos hospitalizaciones y muertes por COVID-19, luego de un acelerado avance del programa de vacunación en el lado mexicano de la franja fronteriza.
Más temprano, la cancillería mexicana afirmó que continuará con el diálogo bilateral con su vecino del norte y principal socio comercial para lograr la reapertura de los cruces entre ambos países.
