La Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF) de la Secretaría de Hacienda vinculó a la exprimera dama, Marta Sahagún, con la congregación de los Legionarios de Cristo.
La esposa del expresidente Vicente Fox fue pieza clave para que la congregación incrementara su poder político y religioso, pues antes de ser la coordinadora de Comunicación del Gobierno de Guanajuato, Sahagún fue tesorera de los Legionarios de Cristo en dicho estado, incluso fue docente en escuelas de la organización religiosa.
Dicha universidad fue construida gracias a la donación de un terreno, por parte de los Legionarios de Cristo, con lo que los gobiernos federal y estatal tenían que contribuir con 84 millones de pesos.
En el municipio de Cotija, los Legionarios de Cristo tienen numerosas propiedades, entre las que se encuentran un museo, un centro cultural, una biblioteca y un panteón, entre otras.
La relación de Marta Sahagún con los Legionarios viene desde su padre, Alberto Sahagún, quien fue amigo de la infancia del fundador de la congregación, Marcial Maciel. Incluso, en su familia se conoce de cuatro miembros que se dedicaron al sacerdocio.
Este martes, el titular de la UIF, Santiago Nieto, dio a conocer que dicho organismo tiene una investigación contra los Legionarios de Cristo por irregularidades financieras.
La indagatoria estaría ligada con la presunta evasión y lavado de dinero, luego de que en 2017 se reveló la investigación “Paradise Papers”, que exhibió el imperio financiero de la Legión, reveló al Diario Reforma.
En noviembre de 2017, el periódico de circulación nacional difundió una investigación de Mexicanos Contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) que reveló que miembros de la Legión de Cristo liquidaron siete empresas offshore que tenía en Luxemburgo, en la isla de Jersey y en Panamá, para evadir impuestos.
Tan sólo en Luxemburgo, el fondo de inversión “Integer Ethical Funds”, manejado por la Congregación, tenía 39 millones de dólares.
Al respecto, la congregación se dijo dispuesta a colaborar con las autoridades, y aseguraron que sus manejos financieros están en orden.
