El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador consideró que hubo una sobre respuesta y se exageró mucho por la polémica generada por las cartas que envió al Rey de España y al Papa Francisco en las que les pidió un perdón por los agravios cometidos en la Conquista.
“Se me hace que hubo una sobre respuesta, se exageró mucho lo cual demuestra que ahí está el tema subterráneo en el subsuelo”, dijo en su conferencia de prensa matutina desde Tijuana, Baja California.
El mandatario dijo que no se solicita una indemnización o que nos devuelvan recursos que se trasladaron a Europa. “No pedimos eso, sólo aclarar lo que sucedió”.
El mandatario destacó que la parte buena es que se haya abierto esta polémica porque nos lleva a revisar nuestro pasado, y recordar nuestra memoria histórica.
Señaló que analizará la respuesta del Vaticano que dijo que el Papa Francisco ya había pedido disculpas y dijo desconocer la negativa del jerarca Católico de no visitar nuestro país para celebrar los 500 años de evangelización.
“Sobre lo de la no visita del Papa siempre será bienvenido a México”, dijo.
